Talk | Sara Sheridan - Where Are The Women?

Our regular programme of talks has gone online whilst our galleries are currently closed.

Author and activist Sara Sheridan has recorded at home a version of a short talk she gave at National Galleries of Scotland last year. Her talk was part of our Friday Night Mixer event, originally hosted after-hours in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery Café on 8 November 2019.

Through a range of different approaches, including photography, theatre and dance, the event explored women artists and sitters in the Scottish collections at the Galleries.

Sara is speaking here about the inspiration for her book Where are the Women? in which she reimagined the landscapes and cities of Scotland, renaming landmarks and significant places to celebrate the achievements of Scottish women. She shares some of the amazing stories she uncovered through her research. We are delighted to share this talk with you here.
