Iain Stewart's selection from You Are Here

The first artwork you see on entering the exhibition You Are Here at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery is Tender VIII, one of Iain Stewart's photographs from his residency in two Edinburgh GP surgeries in the late 1990s.

It's a powerful image that gets to the heart of the communal circumstances and losses we have all had to deal with, to varying degrees, this year. Tender VIII, together with the other four works from the national collection in the exhibition, provides a historical context for the photographs and stories also on display, sent to us by members of the public as part of our 2020: Stories, Portraits, Visions project.

We invited Iain to look through the work submitted and select nine to tell the story of 2020. Here are his selections:
