Biography

Margaret Mitchell was born in Stirling and studied at Edinburgh Napier University and Edinburgh College of Art. She works within a documentary and portraiture tradition. Her photographs seek to portray the individual and their experiences with childhood, family, place and belonging often explored. She frequently photographs children and young people – those in the midst of establishing a sense of self, transforming from one state to another; child to youth to adult. Margaret's work has been exhibited widely and she is the recipient of numerous national and international prizes. She has worked as a photography lecturer and in participatory arts practice.
