Leonor Fini was an Argentinian-Italian painter, illustrator, designer and author. She is best known for her surrealist paintings which often centre around powerful depictions of women. Fini was a self-taught artist and following a brief stint in Milan she moved to Paris where she became an integral part of the Parisian art scene which included artists Leonora Carrington, Salvador Dali, and Max Ernst. Fini was a prominent and charismatic social figure in Paris, and her creative endeavors expanded to stage, costume, and poster design for various theatres and opera houses including the Paris Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. Fini subverted the masculine narratives in her work and is considered a significant contributor to the feminist movement.
