Biography

Joanna Kane studied photography at Edinburgh Napier University, and has an MSc in Informatics and an MA in Philosophy. Her work explores themes which relate to portraiture and identity, with a specific interest in relating new imaging technologies to the history of photography. Kane’s work is primarily focused on stills photography which may incorporate elements of digital media, film and video. She often incorporates investigations into historical, scientific or technological archives or similar subject matter into her practice. Her work was the focus of an exhibition at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in 2008.
