Born in Edinburgh, Henry Morris Dick began his training as an engraver in 1957 as an apprentice with the local firm Gilbert E. Oliver. He completed this in 1963 and went on to attend evening classes at Edinburgh College of Art and Heriot-Watt University. Morris Dick is one of the last remaining practitioners of the highly skilled art of line engraving. The technique, which took years to master and was utilised for centuries, has now given way to computerised methods.
