Edward Gage was born in Gullane, East Lothian, and studied at Edinburgh Collage of Art. He had a varied and distinguished career as a painter, illustrator, stage designer, writer and teacher. He taught at Fettes College, Napier College of Science and Technology and at Edinburgh Collage of Art. He was art critic of ‘The Scotsman’ from 1966-95, and provided illustrations for a number of publications including ‘The Radio Times’. He was president of the Scottish Society of Artists from 1960-4 and in 1992 he made an MBE for services to Scottish art.
