Edward Burch trained at the Royal Academy Schools in London from 1769. He went on to work as a sculptor and gem engraver. In 1788 he was appointed engraver to the King and the Duke of York. He modelled wax portraits for James Tassie and for Josiah Wedgwood. Burch also held the post of Librarian of the Royal Academy from 1794.
