E Roland Bevan was a fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1923 and 1957. His best known sculpture is a bronze bust of Sir Alexander Fleming, which he showed at the Academy in 1948 and again in 1951. Casts similar to the one in the collection of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery can be found in the Wright-Fleming institute in London and on Hastings Square in Darvel, Ayrshire.
