Charlotte Nasmyth was born in Edinburgh, the sixth daughter of artist Alexander Nasmyth. Alexander established the Nasmyth school of landscape painting at his home where he taught all his surviving daughters and two of his sons to paint. Charlotte painted landscape scenes which were widely exhibited throughout the UK including at the Royal Academy, London, the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh, and the Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin (then part of the UK). Like her sisters Jane and Barbara, she also regularly exhibited at the Royal Manchester Institution.
