Abzweig Lehrte II
About this artwork
This hard-to-decipher image is a hybrid of digital and analogue making processes. Christiane Baumgartner’s source material for her prints is often digital film footage or photographs taken on her smartphone. The artist manipulates the image using computer technology before translating it into woodcut, the oldest form of printmaking. She uses a simple kitchen knife to cut plywood boards purchased from a DIY store near her studio.
