If I Stand Fast They will Dig my Grave
About this artwork
Made during a 3-month residency at Location 1, Manhattan, this print is part of a series inspired by early Modernist thinkers. In this series, Hunter uses bright, graphic colours and crisp texts which echo designs from the Modernist era. The letters have a sculptural quality, bunched up together like a stack of solid shapes. Hunter notes that Ian Hamilton Finlay’s concrete poetry was a strong influence on these works: ’It was Finlay who introduced me to the idea of how to make classical art speak of our age. He didn’t make classical work, but he referred to it.’
