Lee Miller

Portrait of Picasso, Cannes

About this artwork

Lee Miller took over 1,000 photographs of Pablo Picasso and he painted her six times. This image of Picasso with a contemplative look was taken by Miller on a visit to his studio in the south of France in 1958. She photographed him numerous times over a thirty year period from their first meeting in 1937. Their close friendship resulted in Miller capturing some of the most intense and captivating portraits of the famous artist in existence. Picasso visited Miller’s home in Sussex many times where she photographed him around the farm and playing with her young son Tony.
