Perrier
About this artwork
In the 1980s Warhol began to accept commissions for advertising work from a range of manufacturers and businesses. Many critics noted that he had essentially gone full-circle, returning to where he had started in the 1950s as a commercial illustrator. Yet Warhol maintained that he “was always a commercial artist”. This screenprint of the French mineral water Perrier was an experimental design for an advertising campaign in 1983. It features printed line drawings of the bottle’s con tours in contrasting colours and set against larger areas of colour. The final design was awarded the Grand Prize of the French Poster in 1983.
