Andy Warhol

Shoe and Handbag

About this artwork

Shoes and feet were of great interest to Warhol and featured in his work throughout his career. In his vast collection of art and objects he even owned a mummified foot. After arriving in New York in 1949, Warhol quickly established himself as one of the most sought-after illustrators of women’s shoes. He was especially celebrated for his work for I. Miller, whose reputation was revitalised with his whimsical adverts for their shoes.
