Andy Warhol

Foot with Flowers

About this artwork

Warhol was an excellent draughtsman and drawing was a constant part of his artistic practice. As a child he took classes at the Carnegie Museum of Art, and won awards for drawings he had made in high school. In this linear pen drawing, he shows a foot alongside a group of flowers. The casual composition creates the impression that this was perhaps an impromptu sketch, as with a similar work from this period, Foot with Cat. He was renowned for his foot fetish, his commercial work dominated by popular shoe illustrations and in his personal drawings he enjoyed depicting feet.
