Henry Morris Dick

Robert Burns, 1759 - 1796. Poet

About this artwork

This line engraving of Robert Burns is derived from the iconic portrait of the poet by Alexander Nasmyth. With the original oil portrait left deliberately unfinished in 1872, Morris Dick’s present-day version has a distinctly stylised, almost contemporary feel for such an archaic technique. The skill involved in capturing the likeness of Burns, as portrayed by Nasmyth in the original portrait, is highlighted in the fact that despite Morris Dick’s extensive experience he took approximately fourteen weeks to complete the work.
