Local junior football clubs are still a feature of the former mining areas. They carry the intense local pride felt in the villages. Her partner – missing an arm, possibly the result of a mining injury – sports a Rangers scarf.  Former miners still loyally support both local and ‘big’ teams, without contradiction.
