Metal Relief with Horizontal Elements
About this artwork
This relief is a collaborative work made by Anthony Hill and Gillian Wise and it displays qualities that interested both artists at this time relating to abstraction and Constructivism. It is based on the large wall reliefs that Hill made the previous year that comprised a series of rectangular panels with varying grades of reflectivity. This relief, which utilises aluminium, tin and Perspex, explores similar ideas of reflectivity and surface texture. As identifiable in both artists’ individual practices, it has an asymmetrical yet balanced composition.
