About this artwork

Elish Angiolini is the first woman to serve as Solicitor-General for Scotland and the first solicitor to bypass the Advocates for the post. A graduate of the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, she joined the Procurator Fiscal service in 1984. During a secondment to the Crown Office she worked to improve support to vulnerable victims and witnesses. In 2000 Angiolini became the first woman to hold the post of Regional Procurator Fiscal for Grampian and the Highlands and Islands. The following year she was appointed Solicitor-General by First Minister Jack McConnell, who was impressed with her experience as prosecutor with the fiscal service and her capacity for modernisation. Angiolini lives in Edinburgh and is married with two children.
