About this artwork

Paterson’s works do not deal with the specific. Much rather, they strive for a general approach to representing urban space by employing abstraction and the lack of detail. This is part of a group of works which centre on three cities which were severely damaged during the Second World War: Coventry, Rotterdam and Hamburg. Paterson is interested in the ideal, utopian nature of building designs and the gap that exists between the design and the actual building. In a similar vein, his works are simultaneously ‘realistic’ and clinically abstract.
