Martin Creed

Work No. 370 Balls

About this artwork

This work consists of almost 1,000 balls, each different in scale, weight and appearance, and so meant for a different function. In assembling these, Creed has produced a work that can be considered an anthropological investigation. The artist has explained that the installation is ‘about exploring shape, size and colour, but it also has a physical aspect to it. It is an attempt to make something that exaggerates the importance of people by putting them among it. For me the experience of looking at art should always be a physical one.’ The installation is a development of Creed’s work with air and encourages the visitor to consider the relationships between objects, people and space.
