Dumfries-born Kirsty Wark is a broadcaster and journalist best known for presenting the current affairs investigative programme Newsnight. Wark joined BBC Radio Scotland in 1976 as a researcher before moving to television in the early 1980s. Her interview in 1990 with the then Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, is considered as a key moment in her journalistic career. She was named BAFTA Scotland Journalist of the Year in 1993 and in 2013 she was awarded the BAFTA Scotland Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting. The following year, she published her first novel, The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle. In 2017, she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. She often plays cameo roles and has appeared in Doctor Who, Absolutely Fabulous, and Good Omens, as well as competing in Celebrity Masterchef and The Great Comic Relief Bake Off.
