About this artwork

Sickert lived in Dieppe, on the coast of northern France, from 1898-1905 and periodically thereafter. Sickert was a pupil of Whistler and the famous artist’s belief in tonal harmony is visible in this tranquil landscape. Sickert's palette is subtle and shadowy, creating the impression of being caught in the shade as the sun sets.
