About this artwork

Sickert lived in Dieppe from 1898-1905 and periodically thereafter. He painted the church of St Jacques, seen here, on a number of occasions. The later versions of about 1907-8 are more freely handled than the earlier ones, and feature a tree to the left of the portal, planted after 1900.
