The Golden Teapot
About this artwork
Redpath frequently painted scenes in her own home, featuring the varied range of objects which she collected on her travels. She explained: “They are a mixture but they have all been chosen by me and therefore live quite happily, and they all have memories too – memories of places I have been to, and also of my life… I feel that all the things that I have, that I live amongst, have both memories and experiences and are part of my painting.” By the 1960s Redpath’s handling became much freer and she applied the paint more thickly, normally working with a palette-knife, as can be seen in this work.
