Craigie Aitchison

Crucifixion

About this artwork

Born in Scotland, Aitchison lived in London since leaving the Slade School of Art where he studied from 1952 until 1954. Early in his career Aitchison won a scholarship to study in Italy. The quality of light and landscape there profoundly affected him, as did early Italian art with its simplified depiction of events. Aitchison painted the theme of the Crucifixion since the mid-1960s.
