Henry Vincent, 1813 - 1878. Chartist; parliamentary candidate [d]

About this artwork

Henry Vincent was a popular leader in the Chartists, a working class movement, which sought to reform the political system in Victorian Britain (1838-1858). He was a gifted public speaker and stood for parliament multiple times; however he was unsuccessful in his attempts. In his later life he began to focus on the anti-slavery movement, going on speaking tours in the 1860's and 1870's.
