This photograph of Gail Porter was taken at the start of her career. She was born in Edinburgh and at the age of eighteen Porter began an HND in Media Production at West Herts College near London. At the same time she worked as a runner for a video production company. In the late 1990s, Porter established her career as a TV presenter on family-friendly shows such as Live & Kicking, The Big Breakfast, and Top of the Pops. In 2005 she started suffering from alopecia, a medical condition which results in hair loss. She has spoken openly about her experiences with mental health problems and bankruptcy, hoping to encourage others to reach out for help.
