About this artwork

This is an image of the artist’s son surrounded by discarded crisp packets and drink cans. Looking like a Dickensian street-urchin cast into a distinctly contemporary era, the print reflects Collishaw’s interest in Victorian art and values. Although the boy’s pose is influenced by sentimental Victorian art, the shiny material on which the image is printed gives the work an aspect of modern kitsch. This work is from a portfolio of prints by eleven different London-based artists, called ‘Screen’. The title is taken from the screenprint technique but also refers to the fact that most of the artists had worked with film or photography.
