This portrait of an unidentified man is one of several portraits made by Hill and Adamson of some of the earliest of visitors to Edinburgh from overseas. Many people from India, mainly from the Parsi community of Mumbai, came to Scotland to study at this time; particularly in the fields of law and medicine.
