This engraving is from Edina Delineata a series of images showing the buildings of Edinburgh, published in 1789 and issued in four instalments. This view of the tomb of the writer and philosopher David Hume was part of the second group of images to be issued, alongside views of the Castle, St Cuthbert’s Church and St Roque’s Chapel. The tomb, which sits within the Old Calton Cemetery on Calton Hill, Edinburgh, was designed by the renowned architect Robert Adam, who was friend’s with Hume.
