The Tron Kirk, Edinburgh. From 'Edina Delineata'
About this artwork
This engraving is from Edina Delineata a series of images showing the buildings of Edinburgh, published in 1789 and issued in four instalments. This view of High Street from the Tron Church was part of the third group of images to be issued, alongside views of New Bridewell, Heriot’s Hospital and the Ruins of Holyrood Chapel. Although largely architectural views, this image also includes many incidental details, such as shop fronts, a man who has been thrown from his horse, and a procession of soldiers trooping towards the Castle.
