About this artwork

The image in this work is similar to a picture one might find on an album cover, club flyer or tattoo associated with heavy metal rock music or with the Hell's Angels. Wright takes his imagery from similar sources to these in popular culture. The ornamental shape above the skulls looks like a leaf or the sign for clubs in a pack of playing cards. Wright used virtually the same symmetrical image of skulls in a wall painting he made for 'Correspondences: Twelve Artists from Berlin and Scotland', an exhibition held in Berlin and at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh in 1997.
