Returning Home from Hind Shooting, Kingie Deer Forest, Invernesshire

About this artwork

This photograph comes from a book called 'The Highland Game', examining aspects of life on Scotland's sporting estates. It took Satterley twelve years to complete. Here we see the bad weather which the keepers responsible for culling the red deer have to face during the winter months. Having first deposited the photographer on the shore, the men returned to the loch before re-landing the boat and unloading the hinds. This image is a reminder that deer have been managed in Scotland since the end of the Ice Age.
