Mary Stewart

Mary Stewart

Mary Stewart was born in Kircudbright (Wigtownshire) in 1773 and became Lady Elton on her marriage to Sir Abraham Elton of Clevedon Somerset in 1823. This series of panoramas, together with four earlier and less successful panoramic views of Edinburgh from the top of Blackford Hill in the Scottish National Gallery collection, were the only works of note made by the artist.
