Sir David Wilkie

William Chalmers Bethune (1744 - 1807), his Wife Isobel Morison (1760 - 1850) and their Daughter Isabella Maxwell Morison (1795 - 1818)

About this artwork

The sitters in this painting belonged to families from the same part of Fife as Wilkie. This portrait was painted at the same time as Wilkie's Pitlessie Fair (1527), also painted for a Fife landowner. The influence of Raeburn on the young artist is evident.
