Fallen Tree with Eyes
About this artwork
Absurdist comedy and satire are at the heart of David Shrigley’s artworks, which range from drawings, sculptures and paintings to outdoor interventions and installations. This work is one of many exploring his distinctive, childlike humour. Two white eyes have been painted onto a fallen tree trunk to transform it from an ordinary object into a cartoon-like character from one of his distinctive drawings, whose eyes are filled with surprise. Shrigley studied Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art and has since maintained an interest in working outside the traditional gallery setting with subtle and light-hearted interventions like this one.
