Sea and Snow, Catterline

About this artwork

Eardley first visited Catterline, a small coastal village south of Aberdeen, in 1950. From the mid-1950s she stayed there semi-permanently. This is an unusual view point, looking down from above at the village at the bottom of a sandy cliff. With a limited palette and bold brush strokes, Eardley has captured the chill of a winter’s day on the North Sea coast.
