About this artwork

In the early 1850s Fraser abandoned his previous experiments with genre subjects to concentrate exclusively on landscape painting. His views of Cadzow Forest, painted during the 1850s and 1860s, were much admired for their fluid handling, luscious colour and high finish. This one appears to be a study of Barncluith near Hamilton in springtime.
