About this artwork

This work depicts part of the coastline at Catterline, the small fishing village south of Aberdeen where Eardley spent much of her time from the early 1950s. The surprisingly modern lamp post, seen in the centre of the painting, was erected by the local fisherman to aid them in their work. Eardley has expertly captured the stormy sky and sea battering the shore through her expressive use of paint.
