About this artwork
Chinard was born and trained in Lyon, where, at the age of sixteen, he was commissioned to restore the façade of the Town Hall. He visited Rome on a number of occasions, studying Antique sculpture, and enjoyed a high reputation, notably for his portrait busts and medallions.
