About this artwork

This pastel was probably made on one of Crawhall’s many trips to Tangier, where he was often joined by other painters from the Glasgow School. The location, with its emphasis on an informal social life and leisure pursuits such as riding, would have greatly appealed to him. Like most visitors he travelled there in the winter and usually stayed for about six months.
