About this artwork

Davie began collecting non-European art when he was in his twenties, buying Indian art from junk shops in Edinburgh. He had a large collection of African, north-American Indian and Oceanic art. In this painting, the horse or bull with horns derives from American Indian paintings, and the crescent moon, rainbow and feather device also comes from American Indian art.
