Roger Brown

Misty Morning

About this artwork

'Misty Morning' was painted following a trip the artist took through the Appalachian Mountains. Brown wrote that it was: 'the first painting where I used graduation of colour receding in an overall pattern and was a turning point in the direction of my work at the time'. The fan-like mountains show the influence of oriental painting while the inclusion of the truck, with the silhouette of the driver, adds a light-hearted touch. The style of the painting has been influenced by cartoons and comic books, with paint applied smoothly and no brushstrokes visible.
