Stage designer and director Philip Prowse was born in England and trained at the Slade School of Fine Art. In 1969 he moved to Scotland and began his long association with Glasgow's Citizens' Theatre. He has worked throughout the world and designed and directed for opera, ballet and drama.This oil sketch was made for a large group portrait of the three artistic Directors of the Citizens' Theatre, which was commissioned by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
