Agnes Miller Parker

Tree Frog

About this artwork

‘Tree Frog’ is an early example of Miller Parker’s wood engravings, which she developed throughout her career. This print demonstrates her interest in the natural world, which would come to fruition in her renowned ‘Fables of Esope’ (1931) publication for Gregynog Press, printed two years after this work was made. This print also reveals the influence of Cubism and the Vorticism of Wyndham Lewis (1882-1957) on Miller Parker’s early work, with its strong angular shapes and geometric design.
