Ayr
About this artwork
Moore’s photographs explore the oddity of the humanised landscape, and the strange and arbitrary way we domesticate our surroundings. However, they are often devoid of any human figures. The composition of this seaside scene uses repetition of horizontal lines: in the edge of the fabric, the planks of the bench, and the horizon itself. The neatly pitched screen and a child’s bicycle might occupy the foreground, but the small, contemplative figure in the background continues to attract attention and unsettle the scene.
