About this artwork
Moore’s buildings are characterised by a curiously unreal solidity - with an often toy-like character generated by bright light. This house at Allonby, Cumbria, is built in perfect symmetry. This leaves the spectator in disbelief that the building is three-dimensional, or that anyone lives there. In this way, the simple and mundane is used to create a curious and almost eerie effect.
