About this artwork

Raymond Moore was attracted to rural Scotland by the broad open spaces which offered him the challenge of not merely recording the picturesque but creating precise geometric landscapes. Here the road forms a solid central axis. The sagging and taut telegraph wires repeat the dipping and rising horizon line. The lonely farm sign and telegraph post separate heaven and earth. Moore often spoke about being drawn to the edges of things, to distant places that refused to disclose their secret to him.
